3 trends in bathroom remodeling for 2014

If bathroom remodeling is a part of your New Year’s resolution plan, you’ll want to keep up-to-date on the latest decor trends. Popular bathroom styles change frequently, and what was once innovative during your last renovation may not stand up to the newest features installed in your neighbor’s bathroom. If you decide that the look of your bathroom needs an upgrade, reach out to your local New Jersey bathroom contractors. Homeowners should not attempt bathroom remodeling installations on their own – these projects require a significant amount of time and professional care.

Here are some of the most popular bathroom remodeling trends you’ll see in 2014:

Acrylic showers and baths
The material used to make showers and baths can have a significant impact on the overall appearance of a bathroom. Fortunately, homeowners are finding out that a durable shower can also be a beautiful one, thanks to the incredible properties of acrylic. Consider glass showers a thing of the past – acrylic is much stronger and more impact-resistant, making it a safer option. Acrylic is resistant to mold and mildew, and will not chip or dent like other shower materials. This means that your shower will require little to no maintenance costs. Additionally, the colors of acrylic bathtubs are embedded through the material itself, so they will not fade or peel, unlike the colors of painted shower materials.

Unique shower shapes
One advantage of a shower remodeling is that homeowners have the freedom to redesign their bathroom to give it a greater sense of space. This can be achieved through the installation of a new shower designed to better fit a room’s specific dimensions. If your bathroom currently has an excessively large, outdated bathtub, you may want to consider a bath to shower conversion. Bathroom contractors will replace your tub with a modern, ideally-sized shower.

Brighter features
Many homeowners are leaning toward lighter colors and glossier features to make their bathrooms stand out. According to a Houzz survey, 32 percent

of homeowners preferred the look of white cabinets over other colors. It also found that brushed nickel and polished chrome were the preferred finishes for sink faucets, garnering 26 and 24 percent of the vote, respectively. Survey respondents indicated that the lighting of a bathroom is an important aspect of its appearance. Also, 48 percent said that they were planning to add a window, which could enhance the look of a bathroom by letting in more sunlight.

While every homeowner has different decor preferences, these three bathroom remodeling trends are likely to be seen in homes of many different styles. Jacuzzis and cathedral-styled ceilings may be features of your dream bathroom, but you might not want to make these first on your list of bathroom remodeling projects. Start simple and begin to develop ideas for a renovation, keeping these trends in mind. Once you have your plan laid out, call a bathroom contractor to have it come to fruition.
