3 Signs of a Poor Vinyl Siding Installation

Getting your home’s siding done is expensive, so when you do take on this type of project, you definitely want it done right. There are a couple of small details to look out for after an installation because if you miss them, they can turn into costly fixes.

Here are 3 signs of a poor vinyl siding installation.

1. You have peeling paint or wallpaper

If you see peeling paint or wallpaper shortly after a siding installation, that could mean that water is finding a way under the siding. It’s really important that this is taken care of as soon as possible. Moisture damage can lead to mold growth which can be a health hazard for your family and it can also jeopardize the structural integrity of your home.

2. You can see cracks in your siding

Your vinyl siding could be cracking for several reasons, most commonly from expansion and contraction with the seasons. If you’re confident this isn’t the case, check for any obvious problems with the way it was installed. If the siding was nailed in too tight, it could promote premature cracking from a smaller degree of expansion and contraction.

3. Improper cutting and flashing where the vinyl siding meets the roof, windows, and other walls

Be sure to check the more vulnerable points of your home, where corners meet, around windows, etc. A good siding job has to have good flashing. If these sensitive areas aren’t protected properly, water will have no problem finding it’s way under your siding and building up mold and mildew and possible eating into your home causing expensive problems down the line.
