Quality Marvin Window & Metal Roof Replacement in Essex County, NJ

This project featured the complete demolition and rebuilding of a front portico that was the focal point of this Essex County home. The entire outside was done in maintenance free Azek and all of the windows were replaced with our energy efficient GlobalTech brand windows. Furthermore, we installed a brand new ProVia front entry door that is durable, classy and fully secure. We finished the portico with Owens Corning Lifetime Shingles and customer cut-in sidewall flashing. In the end the customer was thrilled and most importantly we stayed under budget!

This window replacement project started with 6 windows in Maplewood, NJ and by the time it was finished the customer had decided to replace all 40 windows in their home. They were absolutely thrilled with Marvin’s fiberglass replacement windows. This Hardie Siding Project in Short Hills, NJ featured more than meets the eyes. First, the homeowner was sick and tired of their outdated cedar siding that required constant maintenance and upkeep. They also had one of their garage bays closed off with framing and insulation and wanted it back as a functioning garage. Since our carpenters were there to remove the framing and insulation, they also wanted to get rid of the rounded garage bay corners and go with a more modern 90 degree angle. Once that was done, we also replaced their old old garage doors with brand new insulated steel carriage doors. As for the siding we installed brand new James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding in Sage Green with Sage Green Staggered Shakes on the Front Portico. To finish off the installation we added 8 sets of brand new shutters. The entire project was done to James Hardie Manufactuer Specifications earning us a 100% score on our James Hardie Audit. Montclair, NJ is home to many beautiful historic homes dating back to the 19th century. However, these homes can require constant maintenance and have issues arising from poor water management and outdated gutter and roof systems. That is why this homeowner chose Global Home Improvement to install a standing seam metal roof along with a stainless steel Yankee gutter. Before we started, the built-in gutters were leaking and causing significant water damage to the home. After, the competition, there is virtually no possibility of a leak due to the fact that there are no exposed screws and the stainless steel gutters were soldered together for a 100% watertight seal. This project is a perfect example of solution based renovations where we work hand in hand with our customers to come up with the very best roofing solution to fit their exact needs and budget. 

At Global Home Improvement we specialize in portico construction and are able to handle the project from start to finish including adding the concrete footers, carpentry, finish and trim work, as well new roofing and gutters. This project was especially complicated due to the curved nature of the roof which adds a special wow factor. The entire exterior was framed out and then covered in no maintenance PVC Azek trim, columns and fascia for a smooth finish. We have seen many contractors work with azek and many times they leave the area unpainted with exposed nail holes. This is not the right way to finish a job. As you can see by the close-ups, they finish and trim work is impeccable. Furthermore, as an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Roofing Contractor, we were able to tie in a new roof to the existing roof line for a completed project. Other aspects of the job including, brickwork, blue stone and masonry were all covered by Global's expert craftsman. 

This project was very tricky as it involved multiple steps and unforeseen issues that we were able to successfully handle. This project was part of the Glen Ridge, NJ historic homes district and required special attention. We had to replace the old carriage doors with hard wood custom garage doors without affecting the opening size so we used a 4" trim and weather stripping to achieve this. In addition, we removed the top door and added two Marvin Wood Fiberglass Windows. This required new framing, new exterior trim to match and patching of old cedar siding on an angle so it could go seamlessly with the old siding. On the side of the garage, we also installed a custom all wood douglas fir Marvin French door with Marvin Integrity Windows. This too required custom framing, new trim and integrating clapboard siding. In the end, Global was able to create a complete transformation of this 100-year-old carriage house! *Painting to be done later. 

Lead paint can be a serious problem in homes built before 1978 which is why Global Home Improvement takes extra precaution when installing replacement windows in older homes. Lead debris and dust can become airborne which is why we tape off the window area during installation and perform an outside/in installation method (where applicable).
