Infinity from Marvin Celebrates 20 Years

Infinity from Marvin Celebrates 20 years of business and this article discusses their process in doing so along with how it has helped us at Global Home Improvement grow throughout the years.

Over the past 20 years, Infinity from Marvin has provided homeowners with a fiberglass window replacement product and experience that exceeds all expectations. By focusing on creating a superior window and door product, Infinity has been able to differentiate itself from other windows on the market. Thanks in part to their amazing partners and excellent customer service team, Infinity has grown from an idea to a leader in the window and door replacement marketplace. Here at Global Home Improvement we have been one of the longest partners with Infinity from Marvin and have been installing fiberglass windows for over twelve years. Being that we have worked hand and hand with Infinity from Marvin for years, their high-quality materials have helped grow our business and help satisfy our customers to the fullest extent.

New Material Development

After decades of providing customers with quality windows and doors, the Marvin Company was not content to rest on its success. Under the leadership of Jake, Susan, and George Marvin, the company set out to find a unique material that outperforms and outlasts anything on the market.

In the early 1990s, Marvin began testing new materials on various window and door components. After several years of development, they discovered that pultruded fiberglass provided the strength and durability to withstand extreme climates and is virtually maintenance-free. They called this new window material Ultrex®.

Building off the development of Ultrex fiberglass, Marvin launched the Integrity® from Marvin brand in 1994. As a nod to Marvin’s history, Integrity products were designed with an all-wood interior, but an all-Ultrex fiberglass exterior. This provided Marvin with another high-quality product focused solely on entry-level, new construction projects.

Dan & Tom Enter a New Market

In the late 1990s, Marvin recognized a need and opportunity in the replacement window segment. Could Ultrex also be a great solution for customers looking for new windows for their existing homes? Marvin leaders Dan Marvin and Tom Goldsmith set out to answer just that.

They started with an idea: offer strong, beautifully designed replacement windows in partnership with local dealers. After significant research, Dan and Tom developed a business plan and received board approval to move forward with Infinity from Marvin, in December 2000. During 2000 and 2001, Dan, Tom, and the project team worked tirelessly to develop a product line, manufacturing capabilities, brand, marketing, and process. They traveled to Fargo, ND, several days a week to meet with operations, purchasing, engineering, and production to discuss product development, testing, testing materials, and research and development.

They started small by leasing 50,000 square feet of space in the back of a sugar warehouse, recruited nine people from the Integrity plant, and then the journey began!

The journey started modestly. The first Infinity prototype design, an operating double-hung window, was built of all wood and painted white to look like the Ultrex fiberglass material. Dan and Tom packed up the prototype window into Dan’s 1998 Chevy S10 pickup truck and drove 10 hours from Fargo to Chicago to meet with five dealers. The first product that Infinity from Marvin officially launched was the Insert Double Hung Window with an option for a Grilles-Between-the-Glass (GBG). Shortly after, the first customer order was placed on October 4, 2002, in Chicago.

People loved the strength and beauty of the new windows and sales took off. By 2006, the company needed more space. A lot more. They built a new 200,000 square feet facility in Fargo in late 2006.

Infinity started growing at a steady rate by setting up dealer partners in the Midwest and beginning to move further East. In the years since Infinity has been able to focus on the majority of the continental United States. As of 2022, Infinity from Marvin offers a complete window and door replacement collection and has partners in 35 states.
